from Episode 8

In Episode 8: Love & Friday Magick with Venus, I kicked off a new series on Daily & Planetary Magick, where I covered a whole plethora or correspondences related to Friday/Friday Magick, Love Magick and Venus as a planetary influence and the ruler of Friday. Here is the list of those correspondences in written form.

Day of the Week: Friday

  • named for the Norse Goddess Frigg, queen of the Norse Gods and the wife of Odin

  • heavily associated with another Norse Goddess Freya – the Goddess of love, sex, witchcraft and victory. Because the day radiates Freya’s energy, it’s ideal for witchcraft and magic spells of any kind but…

  • it is a day especially dedicated to love, including self-love, fertility, victory, self-care rituals and love spells.

Venus

  • both the planet and its namesake Roman goddess are heavily associated with LOVE, beauty, passion, harmony, luxuries, opulence, aesthetics, grace and charm, magnetism and charisma, indulgence, sensual pleasures, marriage, marital and conjugal bliss, femininity and partnerships

  • the planet appears to us as the third brightest celestial object in the sky, after the sun and the moon

  • it was given the names “morning star” as well as “ evening star” by early astronomers because it is only visible at twilight, spending about an 8 month period being one or the other in it’s continuous cycle

  • the Greeks gave it the names PHOSPHOROS meaning, “bringer of light” as the morning star AND HESPERUS meaning “the western one” as the evening star (the LATIN terms were later LUCIFER meaning “bringer of light” and VESPER meaning “evening”)

  • during Venus’ transit across the sky she seems to disappear for up to 14 days during what is called her inferior conjunction, only to reappear again, bright and beautiful. This could explain why some deities were said to traverse the realms of the living and dead or this and the other worlds, i.e. Freya as the receiver of the dead

  • Venus’ movements through the sky traces a nearly perfect pentacle in the sky in a repeated pattern. One Venus pentacle covers roughly 8 years.

  • working with Venus enables us to appreciate the beauty and everything wonderful in the creation of the Universe. Venus also inspires us to start spreading love and eventually makes us realize that no force in this world can be as strong as love. It helps us absorb the happiness around us plus affection, love, warmth, kindness, understanding, fondness and other such attributes or feelings that are associated with Venus.

Love Magick

  • a tricky thing, love magick can seem harmless but can involved the interference with another person’s free will. For that reason many practitioners will only promote self love magick or the type of magick that seeks to bring the ideal partner to you, without fixing on a specific person. Remember, CONSENT is sacred.

  • has been attested to on 2200 BCE Cuneiform tablets from the ancient Near East, found on Egyptian ostracon texts from 12th century BCE, documented in the Greco-Roman world through the Middle Ages and all the way up to present day.

  • love charms can be found in the Greek Magical Papyri – which incorporates Ancient Egyptian, Greek and Hebraic elements into a large collection of spells, hymns and rituals.

  • a prominent magic scholar by the name of Mathew Dickie has put forth the argument that men of the middle ages were the actually the main casters of love magic. Even suggesting that the largest age group that practiced love magic were younger men targeting unobtainable women - though the art and literary worlds have painted a contradictory view.

Ways We Can Embrace Love, Venus & Friday Magick

  • Practice SELF-LOVE Magic – especially I you are one that suffers from negative self-talk

  • Get out and be social and friendly with others – Socializing and relating to others is important to Venus who resides over partnership, union, friendship and romance.

  • Try some glamour magic or simply give yourself a day of pampering to let your inner beauty shine.

  • Beauty is strongly associated with Venus, so you can also choose to indulge your senses in the beauty of art, music, dance or theater.

  • Venus rules both Taurus and Libra, signs that are big on aesthetics. Tap into this energy by rearranging a cozy space in your home and adding a few eye-catching, natural or pleasing elements to thrill your inner Venus.

  • Get it on with a trusted and consenting partner! Partaking in sex magick can be incredibly powerful under the energies of Venus, especially on a Friday.

  • Carry a rose quartz with you today to send out some gentle and loving vibes to any cranky people you may encounter or keep it on your left side or a bracelet on your left wrist to invite loving energy your way.

  • Do some spellwork with a flower, specifically a rose: enchant a single pink rose for friendship and inner beauty, and set it on you’re vanity. Or empowering a red rose for passion and place it in your bedroom.

  • Share a romantic meal with your partner - especially one that includes strawberries as they are known to be a love-inducing food that is sacred to many love goddesses, including Freya.

  • Sprinkle salt on your doorstep on the first Friday of the month to increase luck and protection
